For a brief moment, a flicker of something crossed his eyes, but his face remained as calm and unreadable as ever, showing no signs of desire or need.
Raising his glass to mine, he said, "Leah, I'm indebted to you in this life. I'll repay you in the next."
I stared at him, not saying a word. "How can you be sure that I'll still love you in the next life?"
He forced a smile, awkwardly tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"Sorry, I was being greedy," he admitted.
I lifted my chin with pride. "A woman as good as me? You don't deserve me."
