Two months went by and we were also a week away from Matt's 18th birthday. The man loves to read, so I decided to buy him the complete series of Harry Potter. He loves the books more than the movies. Maybe it was just a kind gesture from a friend. I furrowed my eyebrows when I saw the contents of the box. It was red lingerie with a cupless bra.

Instead of curling my hair, I leave it flowing down my shoulders and grab the keychain—his gift. The next few minutes pass in a blur, same as the ride to school. I skip to Ben’s locker to put his gifts but my steps falter when I near it. Cut-out hearts, customised balloons, among other things are glued to the door of his locker. Someone brushes past me and stops by his locker to tape a valentine card to it. Wow.

Rosaline commented, shaking her head. As expected, Margot was right about Harry not picking the gifts he sent. He said in the note that he chose everything based on her preference, but none of the things he sent caught Margot’s attention. They were better suited with Rosaline which made Margot think that Harry probably used his mistress’s preference instead. “That’s funny. He knows it’s not going to work,” Margot mumbled, looking at the jewelry that her husband also got her. She frowned when she thought of Harry’s annoying face when he smiled proudly, making her expression sour.

I picked it up and read: “I’m so sorry for everything I did in the past. Please forgive me. I STILL LOVE YOU.” From the handwriting, I knew it was Harry. My heart darkened. I glanced between the sparkling necklace in the box and the note, unsure whether to accept it. Just then, my phone beeped. I knew it was Harry calling, and I was ready to give him a piece of my mind. In as much as the gift was stunning, I couldn’t let him think it would win my heart back. I slid to answer the call without checking the screen. “Hello, Harry….”

“Really? That’s how you randomly ask people things? With that tone?” They exchange another glance before shaking their heads, both muttering apologies. “Sorry. We were just curious.” I hum low in my throat, but my gaze drops to Viv’s wrist. “What about that bracelet on your hand?” I ask, casual but cutting. “Looks really familiar.” Her smile falters for half a beat, before squeezing Harry’s hand, then lifts her wrist into the light. “He got it for me at an auction too. It’s custom—made specifically for me.” Her voice is sugary, her eyes daring, and she leans in and kisses Harry’s cheek like she’s staking her claim.

She has bewitched me in every sense of the word… and I wouldn't have it any other way. It is soon Valentine’s Day and I love the way her eyes light up when, before she returns to her bedroom, I present her with an ornate earring and necklace jewellery set, in 24-carat white gold and set with a rainbow of precious stones. “Oh my goodness, Chris!” she gasps. “This is too much!” I smile as she continues to gape at her gift. If only she knew I would give her the stars if I could. And if only she knows I still have a whole lot more planned today.
