I stole my childhood friend’s doll. Then, he called to complain. I listened to him wail as the doll sat in my hand, its texture somehow akin to that of human skin. Under its skirt was something remarkably female. This left me confused. ‘Is this doll female or male?’ Then, more importantly… ‘Did it come with both organs? Or is this modified?’ He sounded hysterical over the line. Surprised by this, I accidentally squished the doll’s limbs a little.

Exactly the type to bring home to mama except for the fangs, talons and the huge pair of raven wings on her back. The second is Ankou, a really creepy clown with a constantly nodding Jack-in-the-box head. The face has owl eyes and a mouth filled with canine teeth stretching from ear to ear like a frozen Cheshire cat’s grin. In one hand he holds a whip that used to be somebody’s spine and in the other a drippy clot of blood the size of a volleyball.

“No more waiting! You lost. Now give us that stupid doll like you said you would if he didn’t come.” Claire ultimately looks horrified by the concept of parting with something so precious to her. “No, please, my mum made it for me. It’s supposed to look like my daddy. I won’t give it to you!” she cradles the toy closer her to her chest, terrified that it would be taken away.

The pirates developed a great phobia made the loud sound of hoooo. Another pirates was busy looking at three kids playing by holding their hands, hand to hand, they all were jumping up and laughing, even though they are not making any sound. The pirates looking at those kids sculptures were getting interested in looking at it as they were having fun and they were kids after all, kids can't be scary. All the Kids sculptures shifted their heads to the ship sides in unison as, eventually they all made eyes contact with those looking at them. It was damn scary.

The paths were more uneven here, churned dirt under our shoes instead of better laid gravel. Then I saw it. The haunted house sat near the back edge of the grounds, all peeling paint and fake cobwebs and flickering red bulbs around the entrance. A guy in a torn suit stood outside growling at children with such little conviction it bordered on charming. Clair made a face. “Absolutely not.” I looked at her. “You’re scared of this?” “I’m not scared. I just don’t enjoy cheap jump scares.” “That sounds suspiciously like fear.” She hit my arm lightly with the stuffed rabbit. “Watch it.”

“She invited us all to a Halloween theme park. You know, one of those nighttime amusement parks with the creepy haunted rides, jump scares, mazes, full-on scary season.” Melinda raised her brows, amused. “That actually sounds like hell.” Chloe sat up, eyes sparkling despite herself. “Are you kidding? That sounds like so much fun. We’re definitely going!” Zoe clapped like a kid on Christmas morning. “Yes! I knew you’d say that. Costumes, snacks, haunted rollercoasters, it’s going to be epic.” Melinda sighed, feigning defeat but already smiling. “Fine. But if a clown touches me, I’m setting him on fire.”
