She stood there for a second, chest heaving, fists clenched so tightly her nails drew blood from her palms. Then the scream came. A raw, guttural sound that tore from her throat and ricocheted off every surface in the room. She grabbed the nearest object—a crystal vase filled with white lilies (always lilies, always a reminder of graves)—and hurled it against the opposite wall. It exploded in a shower of glass and water, petals scattering like bloodied snow. “Alive,” she snarled, voice shaking with fury. “That bitch is alive. In my house. Breathing the same air as my son.
