I mumbled gently, trying not to stutter. He smiled, making his face look so edible. “Well, I'm sorry if I disrupted your alone session. I actually needed to escape home.” I nodded in understanding, dropping my bag. “I guess I know how that feels. I am Kira.” “I am Carl.” He said with an outstretched arm. “Nice to meet you.” “Nice to meet you, too.” I responded, taking his hand. I almost moaned, there were the softest palms I have ever touched. Furthermore, I couldn't help but comment on it, “how come you have such soft palms for a man?”

“Your wife’s Heather? Which Heather?” Liam was not affected. He chuckled, “Hey, why are you asking so much? How would I forget my wife’s name? Her birthday is in the middle of August, and she loves to eat dessert. She has a scar on her abdomen, and anger would make her right pupil turn red. Why? Charles answers. "Who?" I see Alpha Hughes's forest green eyes look at me. "I don't know, I didn't hear any other voices." Charles explains. What? Then who was I talking to? There are other people here! I could hear them! "Alright, well, I'll talk to her about it." Then he comes by the cell I'm in. He looks at me and shakes his head. It seems when Alpha Hughes needs to think, he paces.

I dropped the phone from ear and looked around with wandering eyes. "Leo, I can't hear what you are saying." "Leo.." I turned deaf ears to her talks. I was so keen on knowing who had talked. "Dummy!" It said again. "Who are you?" I asked. "And why can I hear your voice? Come out right now." I ordered. I heard a chuckle. "You want to see me?" It asked with a ridiculous tone. "Yes. Or why bother stay in the dark?" I asked. "I am in your head, stupid." It said.

She was always there, a constant, pervasive presence. I felt a desperate urge to turn and flee, to escape this painful tableau. But a stronger, more stubborn part of me compelled me to stay, to observe. This was the test. This was the reality. I moved closer, feigning an interest in a nearby stall selling local honey. From my vantage point, I could see them more clearly. Victoria was animated, gesturing with her hands as she spoke. Earnest was listening, his head tilted slightly towards her. He wasn't smiling, not the easy, relaxed smile I remembered, but there was a certain intensity in his gaze, as if he were genuinely engaged in her words.

Nothing like the man who had held me the night before. “Is this the butcher?” Every muscle in my body locked. I forced air into my lungs and dragged one word out through the cloth. “Enzo, it's me!”

His words were all polite formalities, yet panic churned inside him, desperate for everyone to turn and leave at once. I stared at the teasing mark on the side of his neck. It was fresh and red, a mark Charlotte had just left on him. At the same time, his thoughts shrilled like an air-raid siren. [That was close!
