Find Xander

Kira's POV

With the way I jumped off the bed, the possibility of a sprained ankle can't be ignored. But I care less about myself at this point. I ran along with the doctor and nurse as they entered the ward my dad and sister laid in.

Dad was gasping for breath when the doctor got to him, the machine beeped like it would run out of power. My heart raced as I could almost see my soul leaving the confines of my body.

"Please goddess, don't let my father die!" I murmured to myself countless times.

The doctor kept asking the nurse for different things that I can't seem to name. He had asked for us to leave the space to enable him focus, I wouldn't have left if mum hadn't dragged me with every might she possessed.

"Get a grip on yourself Kira, he is fine now." Mum mumbled into my hair, pulling me into her embrace.

I didn't even realize when I had slipped onto the floor crying hysterically. How awful would it sound that I had come back all for nothing, unable to save my family.

"He is stable now, there is no cause for alarm." The doctor assured attempting to leave.

Standing up hurriedly, I pulled at his lab coat. "Sorry to bother you doc, can I talk to you for a moment?"

He had an unexplainable look on his face, but eventually gave a nod. "Sure, ma'am."

They all had their eyes on me, but I wasn't ready to risk the thoughts nagging at my thoughts just because of those evil minded people.

After ensuring we weren't within earshot, I moved a bit closer to him. "Without mincing words doctor, what happened to my father just now?"

His show of discomfort was too glaring. But he still tried to act bold. "Nothing out of the ordinary, just a usual medical sort of reaction. You wouldn't understand since you aren't part of us."

Raising a stern brow, I folded my hands against my chest, there is an actual need to look as intimidating as much as I can.

"Are you trying to lie to me right now? I already know what happened and it will be better for your own good to tell me the actual truth. Or I would be forced to get that license off your hands." I said, glaring at him.

Swallowing hard, he blinked nonstop. "Please miss, promise me you wouldn't say anything. Please."

"Was his drip tampered with?" I inquired, still maintaining my posture.

He nodded in affirmation, "I think so, the person must have run off when he or she heard footsteps or so."

Biting hard on my lips, I turned shutting my eyes tightly. "Thanks for this." I muttered walking away.

"Please ma'am, don't say anything about this. I would ensure to put out more security at the ward." The doctor assured me.

But I wasn't listening anymore; how far would Leila and Declan go to ruin me?

"As far as far can go definitely." Ayla said with a hint of sarcasm underlying her tone.

"Let me think, please." I hissed, walking back towards the expectant trio.

Leila had an intensity to her stare like she would really love to read through me. Sorry baby, I am so not opening this book of mine.

"Why did you go after the doctor like that?" Mum inquired.

Letting out a small smile I sat next to her, "Sorry mum, just had to ask the doctor if I am fit to be discharged."

Placing a hand on my cheek mum sighed, "You have gone through a whole lot for a day. Please go home. Can you drop her off for me Leila?"

I was about to protest but Leila had nodded her head enthusiastically. I must say, she is really good at portraying herself as the most reliable friend. It's no surprise I got fooled in the past.

"I will drop the both of you off then. It would be my pleasure." Declan added.

Mum gasped abruptly as she addressed Declan, "oh my dear, so sorry. I have been so engrossed with everything I almost didn't notice you. Is he your new friend, baby?"

"Not really, I just met him." I responded blankly, glad that I could deflate his ego right in front of him and his pathetic girlfriend.

Thinking of it now, the two of them are so alike. Licking every person's butt just to get what they want.

Declan acting so sweet and polite held my mum's hand, placing a respectful kiss on it. "I do hope to get to know you better, ma'am." He mused winking at me.

Somebody hold me down before I gorge this man's eyes out.

"Can you both not display your inner thoughts here." Leila joked.

I had the intention of letting out an evil laughter and call her a maniac in the end. But that would be too harsh and would definitely have the both of them questioning me.

Mum laughed lightly, sharing a look with Leila. "I see, alright then Declan. Please drive my babies home safe. Please get some rest Kira, the doctor has assured us they would be fine."

"Alright mum. Stay safe, please." I muttered kissing her forehead.

Leila said her goodbye and urged Declan to come along as they trailed behind me. My mind was reeling with something that I can do urgently. If one of them had tampered with my dad's medication, then they would still try such again.

"Xander!" Ayla whispered.

"Shut up!" I whisper yelled.

"What did you say?" Leila inquired next to me.

I had almost forgotten I had company. "Oh, I am fine."

"You sure you are okay? Do you still need to stay back? I could stay with you if you don't mind." Declan rambled behind me.

Can someone please tell this annoying pest to get lost! Taking a deep breath, I put up my best smile turning to him.

"I am quite fine thank you, I just need to get discharged by the reception and leave." I said

"Awwn sweetie, you look so stressed." Leila cooed, caressing my hair.

I feel like slapping her face for even attempting to stay this close to me. I need to get rid of the both of them to enable me think properly. But by the look of things they wouldn't leave so easily.

Trying to merge my thoughts together, Ayla whispered again. "Xander!"

I held up a smile, "how about you help me get the discharge slip, while I get to the restroom real quick?"

She smiled back, "Sure love. Come with me Declan."

And just like that he was off with her like a lost puppy. This was their usual way of interacting with each other two years ago and I had thought it was just them being casual.

As I watched their receding back, I ran off to the rest room. Locking the door from behind to prevent anyone from interrupting my moment.

"Alright Ayla, what are you saying?"

"You want to sort this and protect your family?" She inquired.

"Can you stop being dramatic already?" I am really getting impatient with her intentional means of dragging things.
