The creature flinched, releasing Manolya to clutch its ears, its distorted face twisting in pain. Eren charged, his breath ragged. “I’ve got it!” he yelled, driving the hellblade deep into the imitator’s back. Black, viscous fluid oozed from the wound, thick and foul, as the creature staggered to its knees, its eyes wide with shock. It began to melt, collapsing into a bubbling puddle on the gravel. I grabbed its head, my anger surging through my body. “No one touches her,” I hissed, snapping its neck with a swift twist. The crack echoed, final and furious.

I felt it before I saw it—the echo of intent, cold and deliberate. A council elder lay slumped against the dais, clutching his side as healers worked frantically. “Elara?” I whispered. Ronan followed my gaze. She stood near the back of the hall, face pale with shock—but her eyes burned with fury. “She didn’t act alone,” Ronan muttered. A howl tore through the night. Then another. The pack surged. I barely had time to react before a blade flashed toward my throat. Instinct took over. My wolf lunged.

The digital destination boards were dark. Not empty, though. In the shadows, another scent moved. Sharp. Predatory. Not wolf. Hound. A lean shape padded out from behind a pillar—sleek, black‑furred, eyes gleaming red under the emergency lights. A Tribunal tracking hound—bio‑engineered, nose keyed to Lunaris and other “anomalous” signatures. It snarled softly, hackles rising as it scented them. Its handler, somewhere in the dark, hissed, “Steady—” but the leash was loose enough to let it lunge if it chose.

I held the angel’s blade in my hands just examining it …wondering if the serpent was indeed right on the blade being powerful enough to kill a hellhound but my mind was already made up and I was out the window without a second thought.
