“Is he here to take her soul?” Martius nodded. Arram sped into the hut and met the reaper, pointing his stick at Desdemona to take her soul out. “No!” Arram yelled. He ran to stop the reaper, but the soul was already out of Desdemona’s body before he could reach him. Arram grabbed the soul before it entered the reaper’s soul sack, but it flooded out of his hand like water poured into a basket. The soul came together and fell into the soul sack.

“If they turned her just to kill her – well, they’ve taken away her soul to serve themselves.” “Her soul?” I asked, taking two longer steps to pull myself level with Torre. “I didn’t know you believed in souls.” “Of course I do,” she tutted. I winced. “Sorry.” She waved a hand through the air, nodding for us to follow her down a shadowed hallway to the left. It began to descend, a curved stairwell that dropped drastically from one step to the next. Torre grabbed the banister and hobbled down it, and my Paps yanked me backwards, raising his eyebrows and shaking his head at me.

Clara kept up with his pace as her tears fell. Soon she felt an odd feeling in her chest and she realised it was her soul trying to escape her body. It was time to give up her soul to Caiden. She stepped back and looked at the crying demon. “My soul is yours to take,” she announced and let her soul go.

Soul looked at me and smiled, "I will be leaving tomorrow. I will come visit, don't worry. But I have admit that I will miss you dearly, Mia Maverick."
