We both froze, our senses on high alert.
“Stay close,” Jake whispered.
We crept forward, our steps careful and silent. My wolf was itching to come out, but I held her back. Whoever was out here wasn’t going to make this easy.
Then we saw him—a figure in a dark cloak, crouched near a fallen tree. He was digging through a bag, too focused on his task to notice us.
Jake’s eyes flashed with anger. “You’re not running this time,” he growled.
The man’s head snapped up, and in an instant, he bolted.
