They’re getting closer.
“We need to find a place to hide,” Ryland says, his voice low. “Somewhere they won’t expect.”
I nod, my mind racing. There’s an old cabin deep in the woods, a place I used to go when I needed to be alone. It’s not much, but it’s hidden, and it might buy us some time.
“This way,” I say, leading them off the path and into the dense underbrush.
The cabin is just as I remember it—small, rundown, but sturdy. We slip inside, and I quickly bar the door, my hands shaking as I try to catch my breath.
