Dragons. “Liana?” Moran’s tone is almost somber, a tad bit authoritative. The girl stands up hurriedly, startled and sheepish. She bows deeply. “Princess Valerie wants to check out a few books. Please help her with whatever she requests.” Liana’s gaze darts towards me before her gaze gravitates back to Moran. She gives him a thin smile and nods in deference. Moran doesn’t wait after that. After he was gone, Liana asks me whether I had any specific book in mind, and when I mentioned mages, she guided me to the last aisle.

Valerie told me some of the books were actually spell books, or better yet, grimoires, as she called them. I grabbed one from the shelves, pulling it open. The Alaskan elders lived in a valley that time had forgotten. The entrance was hidden behind a waterfall, much like the First Wolf's cave, but older, wilder, less tamed. The water was so cold it burned, and the rock behind it was slick with ice. Elif carried Nisan through the waterfall, shielding her daughter with her body, gasping as the freezing water slammed into her back. Inside, the valley opened up like a wound in the earth. The old Archmage carried three enormous books stacked so high in his arms that I could barely see his face behind them. Dust floated into the air with every step he took. He reached the table and dropped all three books directly in front of me. The loud thud echoed through the dining hall.

His hair is disheveled and his feet are bare. His expression is carefully neutral but his eyes, his eyes are fixed on the book in my hands with something that looks like dread. "Where did you find that?" His voice is too controlled, too careful.

“Yup. So did Karma.” “I mean,” he chuckled. “If anyone was going to get into some shady shit, it was Karma.
