Things You Need

Those books were older than any of the others in his office. The bottom shelf (the one he’d been searching when he’d first heard the cats playing in the hall) held his collection of horror anthologies. The famed Whispers series, edited by Stuart David Schiff, featuring the varied works of Ramsey Campbell, Stephen King, Charles Grant and so many others. The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror from England. The Shivers series, published by Cemetery Dance. Masques, Borderlands, Shadows, Stalkers, Dark Forces, October Dreams I & II, Corpse Blossoms, Horror Library Volumes 1-5, and Prime Evil. Classic horror anthologies jammed next to paperback collections of slightly lesser repute with titles to mat

Her Three Wicked Mates

Her Three Wicked Mates

But would they help me protect Orion and seek revenge? I roamed around the library, picking out books from several different sections. A hefty stack was piled in one arm by the time I’d finished—for now—and I narrowed my selection down to three. No pleasure reading this time, I was on a mission. One was a text on abnormal supernatural biology. Another covered the mythology of chimeras, strange creatures featuring numerous animal and human parts. The last was a history of dark witches. After stashing the remaining books on a side table, I climbed back up to the third floor and eased into the hall. The corridor was empty and quiet except for… Was that music?

The Alpha's Undoing

The Alpha's Undoing

The air grew thick with the sound of turning pages and the scent of dust they were disturbing for the first time in decades. Nate’s mind reeled as he read. The books spoke of creatures he’d only ever seen in movies. There were bestiaries detailing dragons, their scales described with metallic precision. He found genealogical charts for vampiric bloodlines and treaties on fae territories. It was a hidden history of the world, all contained in this impossible room, and he could barely believe any of it was real. The books themselves were artifacts, some dating back hundreds of years, their pages brittle and their ink faded. “So… dragons? Vampires? They’re real?” Nate breathed, his voice hushed

The Alpha’s Sanctuary: His Forbidden Mate

The Alpha’s Sanctuary: His Forbidden Mate

Fair point. He pulled a thick tome from the shelf. Dust billowed up when he opened it. "Julian's old. One of the oldest vampires still walking around. Which means there are records. Accounts. Stories about him scattered through history." He set the book on a small table in the corner. "We start here. European vampire registries from the 1600s. Work our way forward." Sat down across from him. I started reading. The work was slow. Tedious. Most of the text was in languages I hadn't spoken in centuries. French. German. Latin. Tormund translated when needed. Made notes in the margins. Cross-referenced dates and names.

The Ascension

The Ascension

Shaking her head, she said, "But aren't you only like that because you idiotically accepted an accursed book from a nobody? You said, you don't even believe in ghosts before you got that." He sighed and took out the book which always appeared inside his pocket for several months now. The book was giving off a mysterious vibe due to its black worn-out cover featuring a faceless monster. He got it from a fake friend who had styled himself as a book collector. Nathan was a horror writer so he accepted the creepy book. His initial objective was only to look for more ideas and inspiration. Who would have thought the horror writer who never believed in ghost would suddenly start seeing creepy ghos

Quite the unique story in this website. I have read until chapter 50, it's a nice fantasy that is also like just a slice of life, at times heavy, at times just like a breath of fresh air. Only problem is the expensive chapters. Good work though.

So You Think Your Sister's a Vampire?

So You Think Your Sister's a Vampire?

“Ward, what have you been able to find out?” His hand hovered over the worn, leather cover. “This book is very old. I believe it was likely written in the mid- to late-sixteenth century, possibly earlier. At that time, Vampires controlled much of Scotland and Ireland, as you know, and they would continue to dominate that area of the world for the next several centuries. It’s basically a manual for all sorts of information to be left for successors, should anything become of the kings and queens of the time, though they obviously expected to live forever.”

Abnormally Normal

Abnormally Normal

In some cultures the dead were buried facedown to prevent them from finding their way out of their graves. The modern incarnation of vampire myth seems to have stemmed largely from Gothic European literature of the 18th and 19th centuries, about the time vampire hysteria was peaking in Europe. Vampiric figures appeared in 18th-century poetry, such as Heinrich August Ossenfelder’s “Der Vampyr” (1748), about a seemingly vampiric narrator who seduces an innocent maiden. Vampire poems began appearing in English about the turn of the 19th century, such as John Stagg’s “The Vampyre” (1810) and Lord Byron’s The Giaour (1813). The first prose vampire story published in English is believed to be John

The Catalyst

The Catalyst

Dannie picked up another joint from her room and went to the library. Among the ancient books was one of the largest collections of werewolf history in the world. If there was anything on Balric or the black book it was there. She gathered a variety of titles that looked promising and lit the joint. Taking a hit, Dannie opened the first book. Inside was mostly what she already knew.

Second Chanced Mates

Second Chanced Mates

I moved my flashlight to where I saw a row of old armor lined up against the wall, there were some rusty swords and shields that I couldn't help but think that these shields had been here way before the Lycan King had even been born, there must have been used for a battle a hundred years ago or even more. There was a large desk in the corner with an antique-looking lamp on top, the bulb seemed to be lit but not on, there were strange-looking books, some with leather covers, others paper, some old, some brand new with pages that fell open and wrinkled under my fingers. There were even some books with gold writing on the cover but none of them looked like they were readable, I picked up the ne

He added and began to read while I chuckled. “What’s in that...?” I asked him. “It’s a funny myth… Monsters and everything…” He added and I began to laugh while walking around that row when suddenly, I looked at the portion of 15th to 17th century where I found a book on Werewolves. I couldn’t believe that I would ever find a whole book on Werewolves. I quickly walked over to it and grabbed it. The book looked quite old but seemed informative.
