I said in a cold and steady voice, "Just like your promises. They're all broken."
His hand trembled slightly, as if my words had cut deep.
Lucas stood silent for a long moment before inhaling a slow, painful breath.
A flicker of desperation crossed his eyes as he asked, "Wilma… if none of that had happened, do you think… maybe there could've still been a chance for us?"
His voice was low, pleading, like he was grasping at the last sliver of hope.
But I shook my head gently. "There are no what-ifs. Just like the stars… Once they choose their path, their orbits are set. They'll never cross paths again."
