Drawing anime muscles that actually look dynamic instead of just tacked-on is tricky. A dynamic pose isn't about making every muscle huge; it's about showing which ones are engaged and stretched. If a character is throwing a punch, the pectoral on that side contracts, the obliques twist, the opposite leg's quad tightens for balance. I trace over photos of athletes now, just mapping the major muscle groups in simple shapes, before I even think about anime eyes or hair.

Honestly, a lot of the popular 'how to draw manga' books get this totally wrong—they teach a symbolic muscle language that only works in super static shots. For actual movement, you gotta unlearn some of that and watch how flesh and bone actually work.

Honestly, one big thing I see all the time is the stiff 'T-pose' energy, where everything feels like a wooden mannequin. It comes from relying too much on simple reference without thinking about weight or flow. Like, an arm isn't just a tube attached to a shoulder; it hangs, it pulls, it has gravity working on it. I've ruined so many sketches by making the hips and shoulders perfectly parallel, zero twist, and it just kills any potential for dynamic movement right there. You end up with characters that look like they're frozen mid-air.

Another mistake is ignoring the line of action or spine. You gotta have that central C or S curve through the torso to suggest motion before you even draw limbs. I'll sometimes just scribble five or six wildly different curves on a page first to get the gesture down, otherwise I get too caught up in proportions and the pose dies on the vine. Also, feet placement! They're not just blobs at the end of the legs; they ground the figure. A character leaning aggressively forward needs the heels off the ground, the toes digging in, otherwise the physics feel off and the whole intent of the pose gets lost.

Honestly, learning proportions felt like trying to crack a code I didn't have the cipher for. What finally clicked was ignoring the 'head as a unit' method at first. I'd just draw a super loose, scribbly gesture line for the spine—a C-curve or an S—and hang blobs for the ribcage and pelvis off it like lumpy beads on a string. Getting that flow mattered more than any measurement.

Then I'd rough in the limbs as single lines, keeping joints as simple circles. Only after that wobbly wireframe felt balanced would I go back and bulk it out, thinking of muscles as sort of padded shapes wrapping around the bones. Staring at too many proportion charts froze me up; making a messy, alive stick figure and building on top of its energy got me further.
