“I want to see them. I want to hold them.” “You will,” Fyre promised as he settled onto the edge of the bed. “But first, you need to drink something. You've been unconscious for three days.” Three days?? Wow. And it felt like I had only been asleep for a night. “The hybrids,” I said suddenly as memory flooded back in a rush. “The attack—what happened? Are you—are the others—” “We're fine,” Lud assured me quickly. “We're all fine. A little worse for wear, but nothing that won't heal.”

I stuttered. I stepped back and tried to call Sunshine, but she’s not responding to me. So I ran. I know that it’s impossible to run away in a situation like this. But I still tried. However, Hyde quickly raised his hand and caught me. When he snarled at me and was about to eat me alive, I closed my eyes tightly as my heart rapidly beat faster. But it didn’t happen. I was thrown back to the ground and I heard growls and snarling before I opened my eyes to see what just happened. My eyes widened as I saw a Lycan mercilessly kill Hyde!

I’d spotted it weeks ago near Topanga and bought it on impulse because it reminded me of him. Tomorrow was our engagement party, the official merging of Woodhills and Stormbane packs under one united front. But tonight could just be ours. “He’s going to lose it,” I murmured, resting my forehead briefly against the steering wheel. Tyler cried at everything. Military reunion videos. Emotional movie scenes. One time he watched wedding vows on YouTube and had to pretend he had allergies afterward. God, I loved that about him. The way his tough Alpha image cracked over little things that mattered.

My Alpha husband, Ryder, has always hated the sound of a crying pup. But recently, he started caring for my adopted sister's newborn pup, staying by its side in the nursery every night until dawn. Every time Ryder left our bedroom for the nursery, an inexplicable stabbing pain would pierce through my chest. This agony would last all night until dawn when he returned. I had finally reached my breaking point. At the Full Moon Festival, I announced in front of the entire pack that I was rejecting our mate bond.

Just before I turned away, I caught a small unusual golden glint in his grey eyes. That was when it hit me. Hypnosis. That was his ability. But if we were looking at everything that happened from the time I met him, I think the extent of his powers went beyond that. It was absolutely terrifying because this was the first time a Lycan used his peors on me and it was to cause harm to someone close to me. What do I do? How do I break out of this? I was getting further and further away from him. Heading for the guest wing where the candidates lodged.

Or sex, as it went – but neither of us mentioned that. Things felt more normal between us than they had in a long time. Since my birthday, to be specific. It was just a shame that was the only thing going back to normal. Seeing the buds and blossom grow and die had bloomed and shrivelled up our hope just as rapidly. Hyacinth kept searching for spells, driven by her previous success, but even she started to get disheartened after weeks of finding nothing. I could see her losing hope. Everyone was. And then the last straw came, in the form of a mindlink sent out to every single member of the Night Wind pack.

" I reached for my phone, but he noticed immediately. So, he swiftly knocked it out of my hand, sending it skidding across the floor with a swift kick. Fury surged through me. In a moment of desperation, I sank my teeth into the flesh of his hand. A faint sweetness filled my mouth, and a sense of dizziness washed over me. 'Damn it. He has added drugs to the skin of his hand.'

Hunter's POV Last night was hell. I finally got some sleep, but I kept waking up, worried something was going to go wrong. I know no one woke up while I was sleeping, I would've been able to hear it. It was just the anxiety building inside me. I finally got out of bed when a 25-pound torpedo jumped on my back. She giggled and started placing sloppy kisses on my scruffy cheek. "Hunty... Wake up?" she giggles.

You can't cry, not here, not over him. The cold hit me like a slap. I gasped, my breath coming in sharp, uneven bursts, my vision swimming I turned to go toward the exit and walked directly into a wall. Except it wasn't a wall. It was someone's chest, wide, solid, and I bounced off it and the hands that caught me before I went sideways were fast and sure. "Whoa, whoa... hey." The voice said. "I've got you." I looked up. It was one of the hockey guys, he was Tyson's best friend. The hockey player with the reputation for being as ruthless on the ice as he was in bed. I’d seen him at parties before, times when I came to watch Liam.

he continued, shredding my last sense of self-esteem, “…Are the last thing that I’d ever put my lips on so you better correct that daydream that you had of me kissing you.” “Are you done?” I sobbed. “Are you done humiliating me? Why don’t you just go ahead and reject me then since I’m no good for you” Our eyes met and for a moment, I thought I saw something shift in his eyes. Something like an apology—a regret. But it was gone in an instant. He pulled Freya to him, and with his eyes still on me, he sank his teeth into her neck, marking her. “She is the only mate that I recognize, and my future Luna.” He said, planting a kiss on Freya’s lips.
