I stared at the spot where the King and Queen of the Lycans had disappeared into the trees, their cloaked figures melting into dappled shadows like characters from some strange fairy tale. My fingers were still tangled with Christian's, our picnic half-forgotten around us, and a laugh bubbled up from my chest - sudden, uncontrolled, slightly hysterical. The Queen of the Lycans had just invited me for tea while wrapped in nothing but a cloak, her hair wild from running in wolf form. If my mother could see me now, she'd either faint dead away or disown me on the spot. Possibly both.

She continued and I snorted. Going towards the sound, I met three girls laughing but the laughter was wiped away from their faces when they saw me. "What are you talking about?” They looked at each other and then back at me, unsure if they wanted to talk but one glare and they told me what I needed to know. The council leader turned toward him slowly. “We have heard your accusations, Alpha Dane.” “Then act on them!” Dane demanded. He pointed directly at me. “She worked with him!” he continued angrily. “That Lycan destroyed my company and she helped him do it!” I lifted my chin, refusing to show any sign of weakness. Dane’s glare shifted between Luciano and me. “You think this is coincidence?” he continued. “A mysterious collapse of my company followed by the sudden appearance of the Lycan King?”

He only wants what he can use, and he doesn't want to use any of us for long." I shivered, feeling a chill that had nothing to do with the cold.

I stood up and turned around only to meet with a pair of cloudy grey eyes, glaring hard at me. My knees wobbled, I staggered backwards and fell to the floor. Was I too occupied with the survey that I didn't smell his eerie scents? The Lycan King stared at me, his eyes burnt in rage when his gaze landed on my neck. What was his deal with my neck? My breath seized when he began to take those dangerous steps towards me. I sprang to my feet before he could get to me. He stopped right in front of me, his gaze was on mine, I gulped down nothing and grabbed the table for support.

She was also smarter than he gave her credit for, using the river to hide her scent. He needed a new plan to get her back, he needed her for his plan to work. She was the key to take over the kingdom from that Lycan. As he sat in the cabin trying to make up a new plan to get her back, his men were outside grumbling about how they lost their queen.
