My heart surrendered to the Boss
I got up, thinking of going to the kitchen for a glass of water, but as my fingers touched the doorknob, a strange sound echoed from outside.
“What’s that?” I pressed my ear to the door, holding my breath and focusing on the sounds beyond it.
A low whimper emerged, like that of a wounded animal, followed by a scream. I jumped back, my heart racing as the screams continued until they abruptly stopped.
I covered my mouth with my hands, stifling the scream and tears trying to escape my throat.
Heavy footsteps echoed through the mansion’s silence. A cracking sound rang out, followed by muffled groans. It was like hearing a dry branch being snapped, over and over.
