Empty. His brows furrow. “Well?” I look up at him. My throat closes. Something inside me breaks. “I lied,” I whisper. His eyes narrow. “You just said it wasn’t the same pendant. That you had it.” “I don’t anymore.” A muscle ticks in his jaw. “That’s convenient.” My vision blurs, but I refuse to cry. “If I’m really that awful,” I say, my voice shaking, “if I’m the selfish, greedy liar you think I am … then what are you going to do?”

I asked as I realized I’d tattled on my grandfather who’d obviously done something he wasn’t supposed to do. “At least tell me that you didn’t ride that wild beast Pinky named Roger,” she huffed. “I rode Roger,” I lied. “Grandfather rode Peter.” I was filled with guilt for lying like that, but when I caught a wink and a smile from my grandfather, I was glad that I did. I justified the lie to myself by reminding myself that it was the truth. My grandfather actually had ridden Peter. I’d just left out that he’d ridden Peter on the way home and allowed my grandmother to believe that he’d never climbed on Roger’s back. I hoped that it was a small enough omiss

I feel guilty about lying to him, but I get the sense telling him about Adrian would be a bad idea. Liam gets up and moves closer to me, leaning in. He reaches out and brushes a finger against my cheek. “You look so sad,” he whispers. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I nod slowly, trying to keep my smile in place. “I’m fine,” I lie. “I just...I don’t feel like myself since the accident.” Liam’s smile disappears, and he grimaces. “That’s alright. I’m just glad that you’re still here with me and not dead. I didn’t think you would ever wake up, you know.”

I said trying to sound convincing. "Are you sure?" Max asked. "Yes." I lied. I'm not fine but I'll be fine. Maybe not today.

I think about telling him how his crazy one sided girlfriend attacked me and all the words that she said. However I chose not to say anything not wanting to spoil the mood that is seemingly nice between us. “ I was a bit busy finishing up some homework.” I lied . Hopefully he believes me. I get into the car opposite him amidst the too many eyes staring . I am sure this is going to be the topic at college campus for quite a long time. Nolan immediately begins the car heading into a street that I am not really familiar with. He drives into the city and then out towards the street which has almost no cars.

I asked, his face was in horror, “You nearly collapsed-” I pushed myself back a little, laughing. “Oh- don’t you worry.” I forced a smile onto my lips. “I must have tripped.” He wasn’t buying it,” I’m just so clumsy, Mr. Dunn.” I swallowed hard, “I’ll just take myself inside.” I began to walk to the house before I turned my head back. “Don’t tell him, please, I just-” I smiled, “Was a little light-headed.” I walked quickly to my house, trying to shudder myself from his stare.

I lied. Lord, please forgive me. "Oh, it's funny how you look so fresh from a jog," she expressed her skepticism. I would normally go out for a jog once in a while, so it shouldn't seem as though it was impossible. "Yeah, I actually stopped at the park for a few minutes to get some fresh air," I lied once again, the pills safely kept between my breasts to hide them from her. "Ok," she flipped her hand in the air, believing what I said thankfully.

I did not want to lie to him, but he was so young. "Because someone told Leo things that were not true," I said. "Or they told him a story in a way that made it sound bad, even though it was not."
