I thought it would break us all apart—me, Zara, the Vale’s army—but then the force bent inward, collapsing back into him like a dying star devouring its own light. And for a heartbeat, the Beast faltered. “Elira…” His voice was cracked stone, torn between two selves. My name sounded like it cost him blood to speak.

Maria said. “Maria, I will destroy Nashville, starting with the Omegas, if you do not give me a champion as it seems that your warrior, here, is afraid,” The Beast said. I stepped forward, my gaze unwavering. “I’m here, Beast. Let’s end this.” The crowd parted to let me through, their eyes filled with a mix of fear and hope. I could feel their expectations weighing heavily on my shoulders. The Beast was a formidable opponent, but I had faced worse.

He had pinned me against the cold stone of the relic chamber, his arm coiled around my head, the other hand bruising my hip. His breath was ragged, his golden eyes heavy with the darkness of the curse that threatened to consume him. “You want to hate me,” he growled, his fangs scraping against my throat. “Your scent tells me otherwise, even as your eyes promise murder.” I choked on a breath, my body betraying me. “I will never be your Queen,” I snapped, even as my body arched towards him. He laughed softly, pressing his hips into mine, so I could feel the rigid length of him. “I don’t want a Queen, little Null. I want to burn alive in you before the world ends. And you, you’re going

It felt as if something had taken my mouth. "Who am I?" The beast said. "P!" Alfred shouted out loud. The beast moved back. "R!" Alfred shouted again, with sweats coming down his body. "I. D. E" Alfred completed. "You are PRIDE!" Alfred said, looking like he was confused on how he got the answer.

“You actually bit me... Oh my God, what are you? What are you?!” Her gaze raised at me as she broke apart right in front of me, her small fists slamming into my chest with frantic, desperate strength, trying to claw her way out of my space. "Get off me! Let me go, you monster!" The sound of her weeping, mixed with the wild, frantic beating of her heart, set my beast completely on edge, demanding I pin her back down and complete the bond right then and there. I clenched my jaw, fighting the brutal urge, my face burying into the crook of her neck as a dark, heavy satisfaction washed over me despite her resistance. How had I not seen how perfect she was for three long years?

“Stop. If he comes he will take me, or call the police. Please calm down.” The beast fought through the reason she offered him, and tried to run forward. I pushed my way to the front, trying to gain control, briefly winning, enough to pull us back toward the back steps. Piper cursed under her breath, and tried relentlessly to pull me up the brick steps. The beast broke free, his roar pierced through the night sky, quietening the cicadas. The beam of the flashlight stopped, and I could feel her father’s fear from almost half a mile away.
