She reached out into the air with both hands, tears and snot running down her face.
"Cali, I brought you meat. Please don't hate me."
The hallucination walked slowly toward them. I crouched down in front of the two of them, trembling, and looked at them.
"Dad. Mom." My voice filled the empty basement, bouncing off every wall.
"Didn't you say the air outside is full of the virus? Didn't you say going outside means death?"
I gave them back their own words, one by one, exactly the way they'd given them to me.
