We hit a floor of solid shadows. In the center of the darkness, Leo was standing. He was no longer fourteen; he looked like a young man of twenty, his hair long and his eyes the same swirling violet galaxy as the First Luna’s. He was holding a sword made of nothing but starlight, and he was facing a throne of bone and shadow. "Leo!" I cried, running toward him. He turned, and for a second, I didn't recognize my own son. The wisdom in his eyes was ancient, and his presence was as heavy as the universe.

The link snapped back like a whip, carving fire down my spine. I threw my head back and laughed. I was really enjoying all of this. The circle’s flames rose higher, devouring the smoke. Lucia’s eyes opened and they were glowing amber threaded with scarlet. She stared at nothing, yet I felt her see me. “Wake,” I whispered. “Luna of Shadowfang. Your sun has set.” The ground shook so violently that Rael fell to one knee. Above us, the wards of the fortress pulsed in perfect synchrony with her heartbeat and mine. The storm outside screamed through the shattered windows, rain and lightning pouring into the chamber. The smell of ozone filled my lungs.

"It's not that easy! I can't just go blam and take out Grocer Outlet. What would that even do? Kill some people? That won't kill their boss. That won't take out the darkness!" "So, you're just going to sit in here and read books?" "Yes, that's exactly what I'm going to do until I figure something else or you come up with a better plan." Liam growled and disappeared up the stairs. I slammed a book down on the table. I was feeling just as helpless as he was. I wanted to go in and fight, just like him. But the darkness was smart. It always had a plan, and if I didn't understand what it was up to, it would be a slaughter.

When suddenly everything goes dark. Blinding all of them of everything. Leo is thrown back with a force and he looks up. To see a bright white wolf in the centre. Looking back at him. "Scar!" He exclaims realising it was her wolf, the very goddess of darkness. Those brown eyes shining yellow. And next he knows. Bright yellow light starts spreading under his feet.

The sunlight warming the hard edges of his face blurs my vision, creating a mirage of long curling horns extending from his temples as I watch him watching me. He leans in closer and I gasp as his eyes flash bright green in the fading light. This has happened a few times before, and at first, I thought it was a trick of the light, but it has happened too frequently for me to not be certain now--there is something not quite right about Leon. Something dangerous. My dreams have been more frequent. Visions of a dragon lover flying overhead, his green scales flashing like gemstones in the sun. Green like the color of Leon's eyes that glow with the same inner fire.

I may have fallen into Erik’s trap, but I knew I would find a way out of it and these mates of mine were going to be a part of it. “Let me go check what’s taking them so long,” Leon said as he got up from bed. His jet-black hair was ruffled and messy, yet he looked flawless. There wasn’t even a single scar on his body, but I guess that’s just his Lycan traits at work. “Try not to kill them, okay? I’m actually not that hungry, so they can take their time,” I said, and he chuckled. “What makes you think that I’d kill anyone?” he asked, looking at me in amusement.

Luca had taken out his adversary by that point. We nodded to each other, flanking the barn, and I held still, trying to see through the slats. I couldn’t see well enough to count the men, but there was plenty to put up a fight. A scream pierced their air, and my lungs emptied. I was going to drag him to the pits of hell myself for what he’s done. To his own daughter, no less. I turned to look at Luca, he was my cousin, my flesh and blood, I wouldn’t force him to follow me into the trap. His resolve was the same as mine, either we died or they did.

He began to believe the story that he was the one who killed his mother. Now all the feelings are back. Leon couldn't cry, as if his eyeballs were dry. Maybe if a single tear of Leon could come out of one of his eyeballs, it could ease the pain just a little. But there were not the slightest tears flowing from his eyeballs. Suddenly the dimensions around Leon changed, now he is in a very dark place. Leon looked around, but he couldn't see anything at all. He also couldn't hear anything. However, suddenly a faint light shone on a spot in front of Leon. Leon narrowed his eyes to have a clearer view.

Lucas spoke up, the hard look in his eye sending his cousin off silently. It took everything Chloe had to suck air into her lungs and not sink to the ground when Lucas took just a few dominating strides towards her. Being werewolf blessed Chloe with supernatural senses and yet the shadows of night and light of the moon only sharpened Lucas’ features even more. There was something wild and yet put together in everything about Lucas. A true apex predator who had fixed his sights on his latest prey.
