That afternoon, he told her to come outside, eyes closed.
“What are you up to?” she asked, stepping carefully onto the porch.
“Just trust me.”
She heard the crunch of gravel, the slow rumble of a new engine. When he told her to open her eyes, she gasped.
A brand-new, shiny black SUV sat in the driveway, windows tinted, chrome gleaming in the sun.
“It has three rows,” Johnny said, grinning. “For our circus.”
She blinked, stunned. “Johnny…”
“Fully loaded. Seats seven. Heated seats, backup camera, even a moonroof. I figured we’d need something more than your old sedan with three kids and all their gear.”
