Here—” I reached for one of the novels from the table beside me, one that was light and funny. “Try reading something that won’t make your brain combust.” He raised an eyebrow. “Fiction?” “Yes, fiction,” I said, placing it in his hand. “You know, made-up stories with emotions, imagination, and people who do ridiculous things for love?” He opened the first page, his expression unreadable. For the next few minutes, the only sound was the crackle of the fire and the rustle of turning pages. Then, suddenly—

He pulled the book free with one hand, and his own wet fingers brushed between her thighs again, smart with urgency. "One more time?" he rasped. Claire stared at him-ache behind her eyes, voice hoarse. "Yes," she finally breathed. "One more time." He kissed her, deep and rough. Closed the book with his other hand-cover snapping shut with authority. She rode him one more time, skin slick, body trembling, pulses crashing as she came again-slow, powerful, echoing under the hush of books. Rowan groaned and came with her, feeding her tight until he fell forward, forearm over her back, his breath ragged.

Susan blushed, and Alexei tilted his head, curious. “Weird books? Now I’m interested.” “They’re just fiction. I like imperfect characters. Relationships that are built over time. Only two seem to be nonfiction and self help books, yet when i check what content they will be self helping me with i feel surprise running through me. I fling that one even harder and it joins its partner on the floor near my wardrobe. There are four remaining. Four novels which I have two days to myself to devour. The smile that works its way up my face is radiant. I'm going to have such a good time.

All I needed to be pumped at the start of the day was to have my coffee on the table beside me and then a book in my warm hands— there wasn't much I would pick over this. Another thing I found ineffable was the effect good stories had on me. I couldn't emphasize just how good stories made me feel. I loved the way I could get lost in stories and not be bothered at all. More than just a way to escape, I saw it as a journey. Yes, a journey. A journey into the lives of characters that I often understood more than even they themselves. It was quite stimulating to be able to move through each phase of fictional characters' lives; experiencing every moment with them.

Sprinted to the door, I pulled it open, not expecting it to open, but it did, causing my heart to swell in joy. Ambling to the shelf, my eyes darted round the various book covers. Fiction was my favorite book to read because the best thing about reading was to be able to escape from your life, to be able to read hundreds or even thousands of other lives. Non-fiction does not have that power, it does not change you the way fiction does. To me, if you are not affected somehow, even if it is the slightest change, you are not reading the right book. I would love to think that every novel I have read has become a part of me and created who I am in a sense.
