The only thing that changed was my body’s temperature kept dropping. At one point, I knew my entire body was vibrating from the internal chill of having suffered such severe blood loss. But there was nothing I could do. I wasn’t entirely sure how long I’d been stuck on that table. More so, I couldn't understand why I was still alive. I have such bad cramps and I can't tell if I'm soaked from the rain or if it's something else entirely but I'm in such agony I feel like I'm going to pass out any moment. The walk is 30 minutes away usually but with me needing to stop and crouch somewhere every now and then it takes a little longer, and once I get in I'm seen quite quickly by nurses and wheeled in, stripped out of my many layers of trousers and that's when I hear the audible gasps and shocked expressions following suit. I look down and there is blood. So much blood but that's the last thing I remember before everything goes black.

He doesn't stop—blow after blow— even when blood starts to drip down my back, forming a puddle on the floor beneath me. It continues until the very moment before I lose consciousness, when I'm completely numb and exhausted from crying, when my body feels nothing but the cold rising from the tips of my fingers due to the loss of blood.

Each heartbeat pulses agony through my veins. My breath catches in my throat as I gasp, trying to comprehend the visceral pain that courses through me. The crimson stain spreads across my chest. My knees buckle beneath the unbearable weight of suffering, and I crumple to the ground. The world spins, colors dancing in chaotic disarray. I feel the very essence of my existence is leaking away, leaving me stranded in a vast expanse of nothingness. Are these the final strokes of my life? I wonder with my eyes gazing down at my bleeding chest.

As soon as she lost her last leg, her brain spammed her with pain signals ruthlessly, but she tried hard to ignore all these. Before it was cut, she managed to propel herself up a bit. Every spectator held their breaths and widened their eyes, as this scene completely felt like something out of a horror movie. The excessive blood loss was already muddling her consciousness. A normal soldier would have already been in a near-death state from this, but she bit her lips ruthlessly to endure.

Her body hit the wall with a loud slap, pain exploding from where her face and breasts slammed into the stone. But no pain from where the poker’s speared through me? Carine had no idea what dying was like but had heard people had been stabbed and not felt much as the adrenaline numbed the shock. Even so, she thought there would be some kind of pain or discomfort, difficulty breathing or weakness from blood loss. Yet Carine felt none of these, just pain from where she had run into a solid wall and the chill from the stone she was pressed against.

Panic mixed with adrenaline that fuelled the sinking realisation that this could be the end for both of us. I could hear her faintly in the distance, but I couldn’t reach her. She was too far away. I tried to call back to her, to reassure her that I would find her but all too quickly the black walls closed in as the pressure on my windpipe increased. With one last breath, the darkness swallowed me up. My eyes felt tight and swollen, I couldn’t move my hands and I could already feel myself bleeding out. Pain radiated from my leg. It had a sort of numbness to it, meaning I didn’t have much longer to live through this.
