We are talking about the sirens. Just like humans, there were many different types of sirens: males and females who took pride in their fish tails of different shapes and colours; and among all of them, there was one that stood out the most, thanks to her beauty, pale skin, bright aquamarine tail and vibrant pink hair. Her name was Marina.

She was a Sharon Nasari, luring friends and lovers to the rocks of her sad existence, smashing lives along the way. When the gunshot came, Abby jerked before stumbling in a haze of pain. The volley of distant pops that followed had her holding her breath. Something had gone wrong, or in her case, right. Max might still be alive and fighting back. Abby bent over with her hands on her knees, sucking in mournful breaths. Please be alive. Please be alive. Khalid paused to listen and yelled commands in Arabic; men scattered. Some ran back towards the lodge; the remaining men hustled her towards the vehicles.

The forest returned to silence, illuminated only by the ordinary light of the moon. Siron fell back, sitting on the ground, completely drained. Elara also sat down, her face pale but relieved. Stefan crawled closer, his chest blackened from the burn, but he was still alive. "Did it... work...?" They all stared at the motionless Kit. Siron crawled toward him, his heart pounding. "Kit? Kit!" He turned Kit’s body over. His face was pale, but peaceful. There was no silver glint in his closed eyes. His chest rose and fell slowly. He was alive.

Steel and Hellfire are watching over Wendy’s shoulder to monitor the outside perimeter. “Can you zoom in?” Councilwoman Rebecca asks me. “Only so much. We still have too much area that isn't connected here in the dead zone,” I tell her. Through the earbuds, I hear Siren say she’s got her father’s scent. “Stay with the squad, Siren,” Raptor growls. “He doesn’t get away this time,” she growls back. “We’ve got movement outside the vans,” Wendy says. “How many?” I ask, seeing Steel lean over Wendy from the corner of my eye.

"Hey, aren't you going to get up and eat?" Siren heard a familiar voice but didn't bother to lift her head up. She closes her eyes to pretend she's sleeping. Just like the other days, she still lying on her bed. Not wanting to do anything. Though she's not crying, she could feel that another part of herself had died. She was lying on the left side of the bed. Facing left too. "Are you going to kill yourself from hunger? What was that hunger strike for?" Felix's voice sounds like an irritating sound of a man who uses loudspeaker when there's a union stike.

I tried not to think too hard on that bit of improvement. “Sadareen, your people might know her as the mother of all sirens. She is one of the few true immortals in this world.” Micah spoke with a detached voice, one that held a deadly edge. “The sirens of this world are not like those of your legends. They live in our oceans, and only emerge to feast. They are scaled, webbed creatures that covet beauty above all. The only way to hold back one of the few immortals is to curse them in some way, bind them to a physical form. Sadareen was once the spirit of the ocean, but make no mistake; she was not kind nor benevolent. The only way to stop the endless death was to bind her into a human form.

Max ran a hand through his hair, Jor had another minute to wait before he could bite her. “She’s barely alive, and Hel is out.” He didn’t say more, but knew Jor was getting where he was going. If Serenity died, they wouldn’t know if her soul and energy stayed with her body before he bit her. They wouldn’t know if a collector came to claim her life and move it to the next. “See if you can rouse her.” Jor said calmly and it felt like his own heart was slowing down, not racing watching Serenity. If she died, if they were to late…

Long dead, eaten, gnawed vertebrae, ribs and tails. “They all swam to my voice and were caught like tiny fish on bread crumbs,” the Siren sang, leaving the unconscious Queen and turning around. “You came by yourself, just like them,” she cooed, poking a black claw into the bones. “Come out, I can smell your blood,” and sang. Fascinated by the voice, Chaos moved away from the wall and, under Nocté’s frightened gaze, went to the Siren. “Come to me, come on ... I'll give you pleasure,” her tentacles merged into a tail.

Look, where I stood; in the mouth of death. I tried to struggle in her hold but she roared at me, keeping me in the hold. I tried to shout but it wasn’t loud enough to call for help. I thought she would push me any second but the hope of survival arose when the sirens started to buzz, deafening us to death. Within seconds, there was an army steadied to kill this culprit. Their weapons were locked on their target and the voice that soothed me came across my ears.
