“I don’t even know where Adrian is. I have no way to contact him.” I pause, the words burning on my tongue. “And why should I tell him? The man who abandoned me at the wedding altar, pregnant, and turned me into a joke in front of the world? If he finds out someone tried to kill me, he’ll probably celebrate.”
“I see you’re still angry with him,” Thomas says, a faint, knowing smile tugging at his lips. For a moment, I realise that in another life, this man was undeniably handsome, a face now weathered and worn by poverty and hardship.
