Harlow throws her arms around my legs, then shrieks and recoils like I’m the Swamp Thing.
“Did you get into a fight with a tap?” my father laughs.
“Yeah, a Mercer-shaped one,” I grumble, scanning the room. “Where did he go?”
Dad shrugs, unbothered. I turn to Harlow, who suddenly finds her shoes very interesting.
“Erm...”
I narrow my eyes. “Where did Daddy Mercer go?”
She sighs dramatically, then points at a door.
I turn to leave, but pause. No. I know my kid. I crouch down, flashing her a slow grin. “Okay, princess. Where did Daddy Mercer really go? Not the way he told you to say.”
