I look around the living and dining room, not really sure what it is I'm looking for. "Psst! Check this out," Gabby motions me over to the mantle on which is placed numerous photo frames. I glance over them, seeing a younger Harlow and Hamilton with two adults, and I assume they are their parents. I've never stopped to think about their parents until now. Besides hearing that the former Beta passed away when Hamilton was still too young to take over the role, I haven't wondered what happened to them. But I do now. "Hmmm..." picking up a particular frame, Gabby gives her opinion in one simple syllable.

Harvey continued his chat with his girlfriend, insulting the nurse, calling her different names no one would like to be called. ‘Their vocabulary sure is wide.’ He thought, laying back on the bed. Staring at the ceiling, he wondered what his father was doing at the moment. Was he looking for him? Was he worried? He bit his lips and clenched his hands under the blanket. ‘I DOUBT IT. He was probably happy I was gone or something.’ Rory seemed to have a talent for being hated by the Thatcher family. He was really good; perhaps he should be given an award.

She just needed a taste now and then to keep her going. My parents came for a visit, and Harlow was the most nervous I had ever seen. She almost chewed a hole through her lip, biting at it. My parents stayed longer than they initially said; they wanted to get to know their son’s mate. They loved her like I knew they would, and she loved them right back.

“I knew it! I always knew it! Even when you were little, I said to Gloria, ‘That boy will grow up to break hearts and confuse genders!’” Rafael nearly spat his drink while the rest of the table chuckled at him. Camila turned to Harlow, her eyes twinkling. “My dear boy, you’re beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. Are your parents alive?” Harlow blinked, caught completely off guard. “Um… no. I mean, I grew up in an orphanage. I never met them.” The room went quiet instantly. The air shifted, that kind of silence that stretches awkwardly after an unexpected revelation. But Camila clapped her hands gleefully, breaking the tension. “Perfect! You have no parents? Then I’ll adopt you!”

Harvey yelled, his face red. "Susie has been rushing me. Do you want me to get married or not? Don't you want me to give you grandkids and carry on the family name?" Ever since Harvey was a child, he had been spoiled by his entire family. His parents had been torn, but his last sentence made them panic. His mother, Urma, hastily exclaimed, 'Don't be so impatient, Harv. We're already doing our best to raise the money." His father, Derek, also chimed in, saying, "Yes, that's right. You must carry on the family name. We're even more anxious to see you and Susie getting married!"

I answer. “So when Harlow was kidnapped it was actually someone who had figured out what had happened and returned Harlow to her real parents who happened to be Shawn and Johanna’s parent's cousin. It took me a bit longer to find out that Harlow’s mother was a vampire while her father was a very powerful warlock who went against the rest of his family and fought against the fae. His family disowned him when they found out his mate was a vampire.” I add.
