The car pulled into our apartment complex and rolled into its parking spot. Mom carried the cake box. Dad carefully held the Barbie doll. They smiled as they went upstairs, whispering about how they would surprise me. I followed them through the lobby, the elevator, the hallway, and finally through our front door. The living room lights came on. "Lily, we're home," Mom called, her voice bright. "Look what Mom and Dad got you!" No one answered. Dad placed the Barbie doll on the coffee table, right beside the cracked old one.

Her mom kicked her out of the house. ** “Minx, get in here now!” Mrs. Jackson said one day while she was sanctifying the house. She did that on the first days of the months to get rid of every bad luck but unexpectedly, she just started doing it out of the blues. “Yes, mom.” Minx answered. “What have you been up to lately? I sense a new energy, a new presence in this house.” Mrs. Jackson said. She wasn’t sure of what it was but she knew that something or someone new had entered the house. She wanted to know what.

It is nice to have friends when you are in a strange new place. “Come on,” Jackson said, pulling himself up off the sofa. “It’s almost time and the pack house is already filling up.” We all stood and made our way toward the door. Jackson stopped me and took my arm. “Let’s put on a show for our pack, Luna.” He said to me, I felt my face heat up, knowing I was blushing a bright shade of scarlet when we headed out of the room.

When he saw me, he switched off the tv and turned his full attention towards me.

He meets my gaze and offers a small smile. “Eight.” “Eight?” I echo. “One or two might be temporary.” Quinn’s fiancé, Archer, raises an eyebrow. “Only one or two?” Quinn smiles guiltily. “They’re all so cute.” “I want a cat!” Jackson says, face lighting up. He ignored Jade and ordered James, "Let's leave now." “Jackson, you can’t leave your mother alone!” Jade saw her son’s face turning all red and knew that the drug was working.
