Alpha Kyle's POV I paced around the room feeling rather uncomfortable. I was unable to sleep last night as my wolf didn't let me sleep. He had been disturbing me to look for our mate. Rejecting my mate wasn't a good decision as I didn't feel my body again. The pain was more than I had imagined. Even though I had tried to suppress it, I felt I couldn't continue to suppress it.

Jake, the leader of the trio, clenched his jaw as he stared at Ryan. “There he is,” he muttered. “The reason Kate barely has time for me anymore. That son of a bitch.” His friend, Vince, took a slow sip of his drink. “Seriously, man? You’re still hung up on that chick? She’s playing both of you.” Jake shot him a glare. “I don’t care! I was fine with it before, but now Ryan’s acting like he owns her.” He banged his fist on the table. “I’m done with this. It’s time to teach him a lesson.”

He had his right hand shoved in his pocket, standing beside the bed he asked, "You are up?" Ryan silently nodded and pulled out the IV drip. The man stopped him, "Stay... The doctor will come and check up on you!" "I am fine, there is no need of a check up." Ryan spat, coldly. The spectacled man moved away allowing Ryan to get off the bed, from the way he spoke it was easy for him to say that he was in a really bad mood. The man was called Jake, he was Ryan's right hand guy, more like a super personal assistant. He had been with him since the time Ryan took charge of the clan four years ago.

Ryan responded with such zeal one would have thought he was going on some kind of top secret mission.

Ryan tried not to notice how clean Daniel looked in a navy-blue button-up with the sleeves rolled just enough to show his forearms. Tried not to notice. Failed. He turned away quickly, right into someone else. “Ryan?” The voice made his blood freeze. He turned. And there stood Jake Miller. Smiling. Too wide. Too casual. Like they’d just bumped into each other at a coffee shop instead of across the emotional landmine Ryan had carefully buried. “…What the hell are you doing here?” Ryan asked, low. Jake looked around innocently. “What? I transferred too. Didn’t you hear?”

We pull apart and I stare pridefully at them, three brothers, just like four years ago except we have come so far and we are not the same people anymore. "How's the study going?" I ask Jake and he shrugs casually. Jake is doing his masters in web designing and networking at Stanford University and has been gone for months because he got a job close to the university and he only returned to be at my wedding. "It's really going great, Taylor." I give him a deep double meaning look before asking, "Is there a girl you want me to meet?" A blush appears on his cheeks and nod. "Her name is Blake, Blake Noble."

All you do all day is stay home and paint! Is he lying to give a good impression? Ryder narrowed his eyes at Jake. Sly fox! "What job?" Henry asked. Calmly, Jake picked up his fork and knife and looked at Henry, secretly feeling quite confident. Yet he didn't dare to look at Ryder when he answered. "I own a few galleries in a couple of towns and work as a writer too. I have published a few books so far and I'm recently working on a new one." As he said this, the expressions on Michelle and Henry got better, but Ryder kept staring at Jake like she was seeing him for the first time. This is Jake, right? My Jake? When.... How... A male voice spoke and I frown in confusion. “May I know who is this speaking?” “James. James Russo. I guess it’s not that easy to forget me.” His cocky tone made me roll my eyes. “Ha! You. Great, I thought I could have a night but okay. Call me as you arrive.” I said rolling my eyes. “Okay.” With that he cut the call.

"You really disappeared, Maya." Maya didn't offer an excuse. She didn't look away. "I know." Recognizing the rising tension, Ryan stepped into the gap, placing a heavy hand on Jake's shoulder. "Hey. Come over here for a second." Ryan pulled Jake toward the coffee counter near the window, leaving Emma standing beside Maya and her daughter. Ryan leaned against the edge of the counter, his dark eyes searching his teammate's face. "How do you know her?" Jake rubbed a hand over his face, staring out at the tarmac where the private jet was being fueled. "We were best friends in college. Closest person in the world to me."
