She points a playful finger at me, her smile kind. Taking the hint, I retreat to the living room, feeling slightly rebuffed but understanding her concern. Not really in the mood for TV, I wander over to the massive bookcase and pull out “Emma” by Jane Austen, I've been wanting to read it since I finished “Pride and Prejudice” but we didn’t have it at the Beta’s house, and our school library didn’t stock it either. Feeling a little spark of joy at my small find, I curl up on the sofa to start reading, letting the quiet of the room wrap around me like a comforting blanket.

I swear that this guy moves like a ghost. I sat down on the couch, I realised that there was a book on the table. I took it and it was one of my favourite author, it was Jane Austen and it was a first edition. I can only wonder how much it must have caused. Pride and Prejudice will always be my all time favourite literature. All in all I can say that being married doesn't seem to bad from where I was standing.

She pats her abdomen for emphasis. Once she closes the door to her room behind her, she finds herself pacing back and forth, desperate for something to do. She can't seem to sit for too long. Her eye catches a book she's been wanting to read. Reading hasn't exactly fit her mood lately. In one swift motion, she grabs the novel off the shelf, jumps into bed, and opens to the first chapter.

She noticed my blank expression and threw up her hands in frustration which made me want to laugh but I kept my face neutral. "It's a corset top. It needs to tied up real tight from behind." She explained like I was a five year old and I cleared my throat as my mind was thinking about all the ways I could rip it apart and caress her waist from behind. "You could have asked for help from your stylist. Where are they?" I asked, looking around to find no one in sight. I noticed a copy of Persuasion by Jane Austen on her bed and a bathrobe. I've noticed her reading this book multiple times this week.

The next morning, he left. Jane was supposed to be living her best years, but she lived as though she was an old woman of seventy or eighty. During the winter, when it was sunny out, she would take her chair and her blanket, as well as a hot-water bottle to warm her hands and feet with. With these, she would sit on the porch and bask in the sun. She lived like she was dying. A new butler arrived at the manor. The new butler was often serious and expressionless, similar to Mr. Summers. Early in the morning, Jane could hear the old butler passing the baton to his successor.

Jane's situation is compounded by the fact that she is facing this challenging time alone. She has to do everything on her own with no one around to care for her. I do my best to help her, but Jane is such an independent woman. She never asks for anyone’s help, even when needed, and that’s what worries me the most. Even more when she is not around me, like times when I’m at work or when she is alone at her home, mostly at night, and I don’t know why, but around Jane, I feel so protective, like she is someone too precious to me, but the thing is, I can’t even tell Jane about how I feel about her. Jane has already faced so much in her life. I don’t want to burden her more at the cost of ruinin

This one had a black hard cover with the title engraved into it alongside the author’s name. Jane Austen. It was custom-made. Uncle Sebastien was a lot of things, but him reading fictional literature wasn’t one of the things I had expected. He acted twice his age, like he didn’t belong in this generation at all. Everything about him. The way he talked. His mannerisms. Rigid. Controlled. Weird. I flipped through the pages, still trying to process it all. The formatting looked old-fashioned, like one of those historical editions from decades ago. The names “Elizabeth Bennet” and “Mr. Darcy” were highlighted neatly throughout the pages.

He can’t let his prey slip away. Meanwhile, Jane trembles a bit as she takes out her phone. During her time as Austin’s wife, she never once touched her husband’s money. All her needs were met through the special cards Austin provided her. The clothes she wore and her collection at the Don William's house were all her mother-in-law’s desires. She was diligent in purchasing everything Jane had never imagined before.

I yelled out, more of a rebuke of his lasting presence in my head, than of the figure behind the door. Not long after his departing footsteps fell on the floor with a heavy thud, I heard an ecstatic voice downstairs. Since the maids were all gone. I could only make a guess…that blonde Lucifer. I searched for a book in one of my luggages that held the books that formed my mini library, and dug out Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
