"Disappearing for years only to show up in New York as a beggar?" Jared’s jaw clenched. He ran a hand through his messy hair, clearly agitated. "Have you met my parents?" he asked, trying to deflect. "Your parents have been waiting for you to come back," Serena shot back, her voice rising. "But you were nowhere to be found.
