Miriam was astonished to see Jenna and even more overwhelmed to see the array of shifts and drawers. At least none of them were transparent, unlike some of Daphne's. No stays, but perhaps that was for the best. She had never liked being confined anyway. Choosing a white one as if to make a point, she wondered what had happened to her gowns, though was relieved to see her choker. She touched the pale green ribbon beneath the single plait she had managed to fashion herself and felt a sense of achievement. Had she been transformed into a new person - Mia - overnight?

It had no arms, revealing her beautiful shoulders, and the soft curve of her neck. “It is.” She said, pointing to the shiny, green ribbon holding her beautiful hair in a bun. Then, she held out a foot, showing a shiny red heel. “There’s my red and green. Where’s yours?” She asked, indicating my white tuxedo with black lapels. “Here it is.” I said, plucking a red and green leaf from a nearby tree, and tucked it into my pocket. She laughed, “Now you’re complete.”

Gold and green were the pack colors and I wanted Jenna to feel she was part of the Pack before she stepped foot into the ceremony hall. I had been down to check on catering and decorating. Everything was even more perfect than I could have imagined. Now we have this blunder, but if anyone can pull it off, Jenna will be able to do so. Jenna turns and pulls me into a tight hug. “Thank you so much Adam,” she murmurs.

There was barely a moment’s hesitation before all of us spread out and genuflected in one form or another, each acting in symmetry with a coordination that would’ve impressed me even if I’d been expecting it. “Yes, please” we all said in unison, our voices dripping with honey. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Madam Dro positively beaming. It did not escape my notice how lovely she looked with her arranged auburn hair, wearing a gown of the deepest violet I had ever witnessed and looking like a queen all to herself. I felt my cheeks begin to redden, and I fought with all my self control not to let any of my thoughts show upon my face, or… elsewhere.

I needed to feel human again. ​We spent the afternoon on Rodeo Drive. I used a portion of my first paycheck—the "ransom money," as I now called it—to buy a dress that wasn't navy or black. It was a vibrant, emerald green silk that made my eyes pop and hugged my curves in a way that felt powerful, not restrictive. ​"You look incredible," Jenny said as we walked toward a luxurious, high-end restaurant where she’d managed to snag a last-minute reservation. Meanwhile, in Valemont, Evelyn was helping Gianna dress. "You should wear the jewelry the King gave you," Evelyn suggested. "As a show of appreciation." Gianna hesitated, then nodded. "The ruby set. With the green dress." "Perfect choice, Luna." Evelyn laid out the dress while Gianna sat at the vanity. The green silk was deep and rich, with gold embroidery along the hem. It would complement the rubies beautifully. "Let me do your hair," Evelyn said, reaching for the pins. "No. I'll wear it down."

The morning carried itself. When Brynn rose from the basin, dried, robed again, Wynn led her to the small adjacent chamber where the bonding dress had been laid out. It was not white, the old rites had never used white, but a deep forest green, the color of growing things, of the season she’d come home in, of the somewhere they had all been promised. The fabric was simple, well-made, sewn by hands across the pack in the days since Torrhen’s announcement, every wolf who’d contributed a stitch having earned a place in the witnessing. Brynn touched the green and thought of Isla, and of Lena’s garden, and of the little plant on the eastern window, and her throat tightened.

She carried a tablet in one hand and seemed ready for anything. Anderson shook her hand too. Her grip was warm and she held it a second longer than usual. “Eve, I look forward to working with you,” he said. He could already imagine her fiery spirit bringing fresh ideas to his projects. The last woman smiled shyly but her eyes sparkled. “My name is Jenny,” she said softly. Jenny had blonde hair that framed her pretty face in gentle curls. She wore a soft pink blouse and a skirt that hugged her curves in a sweet way. At twenty five, she had a kind and seductive charm. Her blue eyes looked up at him with warmth.

Dahlia asked gawking at my appearance, I blushed under her gaze and slapped her shoulder. "Stop that. You are one to say." she looked smoking hot in her royal blue romper with a plunging neckline. Jenny did not look like she is pregnant in her baby pink dress in the first glance, you would have to look twice to see the small baby bump showing. "Aren't we girls going to turn some eyes tonight?" Jenny asked looking at each of us with an appraising look. "It's too bad I am already taken or else I was up for some fun."
