Melody’s POV I made it the bakery in record time, hitting every green light on the way. Pulling up, I saw that my morning baker, Jim had already arrived. The poor guy had volunteered for the overtime to cover Tiffany’s shift, now that I had fired her. I felt bad and grateful to him for doing that; definitely going to give him a bonus on his check this week, and also find someone to hire and train to cover the cleaning shift.

She collapsed onto the floor, her hair disheveled, wailing loudly without the slightest concern for how she looked. “I did it all for this family! Was it wrong for me to try to save money? Are you trying to drive me to my death?” I walked over to her and slowly crouched down. “Mom, do you know why I dared to flip the table today?” I said softly. She lifted her head in confusion, her tear-filled eyes staring at me. From the pocket of my pants, I slowly pulled out a folded sheet of paper. Under the watchful gaze of everyone in the room, I carefully unfolded it.

The flour drifted neatly into the bowl. She gasped. "I did it!" "You did." I smiled. "See?" "It isn't difficult." She grinned proudly. "I think..." She lifted her chin just a little. "...I'm already becoming an excellent baker." Across the room... Cook quietly muttered something under her breath. "I'm reserving judgement." One of the kitchen maids quickly turned away. Though not before I caught the smile she was trying very hard to hide. Aurelia stepped back with obvious satisfaction. "My turn is finished."
