Allen sat next to Kate and stared at her without blinking her eyes. “Cherry? she asked. Kate didn’t understand if she wanted to eat cherries or not. Mr. Allen understood what his wife wanted to say; after staying silent for almost 14 years, her voice seemed to sit down, she felt a little difficult to talk.
