Then he picked up the gun.
"This is a Glock 19. Nine millimeter. Standard, reliable, relatively easy to handle." He showed me the magazine, the safety, and the basics with practiced ease. "Your stance is important. Feet shoulder-width apart. Slight bend in the knees. Hold it with both hands—dominant hand on the grip, support hand underneath."
He demonstrated, aimed, and fired.
Three perfect shots to the center of the target.
"Your turn."
He handed me the gun. It was heavier than I expected. I tried to copy his stance, but it felt wrong, awkward.
