I couldn't help but laugh. I wasn't sure if Mom and Dad had actually lost it, but Alice definitely had. I pulled out my phone and called them to come pick Alice up.
"If it weren't for you—if you'd just paid up—there wouldn't be any need for a mortgage!" Dad shouted at Grandma, jabbing his finger at her.
Mom tried to calm him down with a hug. "Arguing with them is pointless. They don't even understand what life and death really mean. They're just selfish."
Then, she grabbed Alice, trying to pull her away, but Alice yelled, "Well, just take Grandma's bankbook! All her money's ours when she dies, isn't it?"
