My stomach drops as my gaze snaps to him.
“They are not his,” Thorin says casually, like he’s correcting a minor misunderstanding. “So they cannot betray him.”
I freeze.
“What…?” I breathe.
His blue eyes gleam in the dim light, something dark and certain settling in them.
“These warriors,” he continues, gesturing lazily toward the men surrounding us, “were raised with me. Trained with me. Bled with me.”
My heart starts pounding harder.
“They do not answer to Alpha Hector,” he says, his voice calm, absolute. “They answer to me.”
