Kael knelt, broke the ice with his fist, and drank from his palm before offering the spot to Lyra.
"Drink," he said.
She knelt. The water was so cold it burned, but it was clean and fresh, nothing like the kennel water thick with rust and dirt. Sena drank after her and then sat against a tree to rest.
"Ten minutes," Kael said, walking to the edge of the clearing.
Lyra followed him. "You never answered my question. The woman who made you hide."
Kael was silent for a long moment, his breath fogging in the cold air. "Mira," he finally said, her name coming out like broken glass. "Her name was Mira."
