We still hadn’t chosen a song when the sun sank over the wall and the soft edges of evening filled the garden.
“It’s getting late. We should go in for dinner,” Nora said.
I nodded and stood. I turned, and froze as I saw a pair of eyes staring at me from the garden hedge.
“Clara, what’s wrong?” Nora asked.
I pointed, and Nora gave a tiny shriek.
A man stepped out from among the leaves, and I stepped in front of Nora. I knew that man. It was Nora’s first fated mate, Kyle.
“There you are,” he hissed. “Did you think you could just toss me aside like trash, Nora?”
