Poppy was sprawled there, half her body on the couch, half on the carpet, like gravity had won a messy, decisive battle.
“There,” I said. “Princess Chaos in the wild.”
Poppy froze mid-roll. Her little head turned slowly toward Javier’s voice coming through the phone, like a raccoon catching the crinkle of a plastic bag. The second she saw her uncle’s face on the screen, horror flashed across her features at lightning speed.
“NO,” she yelled.
Javier sat up straighter, leaning close to the camera, dimples out. “Good morning to you too, little kartoshka.”
