The group straightened instinctively as Irene reached them, her smile already in place, her eyes fixed on Adrea. “My dear,” Irene said warmly, as though they were old friends rather than estranged in laws. “What a surprise.” Adrea returned the smile with impeccable politeness. “Irene,” she replied calmly. “I did not realise you would be attending.” Lies. Liya wanted to reach for it and crush it beneath her shoes as she would have done if she were there as herself. But this was Irene. Irene barely gave a fuck about what was happening. Hell, she was just meeting the man for the first time. “I-Irene,” she whispered, and Liam frowned as he narrowed his eyes at her. “It can't be,” he whispered to himself, and Liya frowned.

“Seriously, I don’t know what’s wrong with my brother! Kiara, I need your help! I mean- we.” In the living room sat a very tall and beautiful lady on the couch. Her black hair was packed into a loose bun, with a strand dangling on the side of her face. Her face was small and oval, and her large eyes blinked rapidly as if holding back tears. “What’s happening?” Kiara asked, still lost. Because she’d never seen this lady before, and she understood not a single word her best friend was saying. “Who’s she?” “Irene, of course. I once mentioned her to you, remember?” Maya sat her down on the couch, sitting beside her.

“It is a new era in Ares House, and my people need to come to terms with that change. I... we...” I said, correcting myself as I glanced at Ismene-Eirene. Ismene-Eirene smiled at my correction to include her. She is Lady of Ares, and I want her to know that it isn’t an empty or frivolous title. She has power and will be able to wield it. I want her to know she is as much a part of the House and the decisions made as I am.

Her lips were painted with purple lipstick, and she wore jewels on her neck. "My, oh my." The lady said this as she stared at Irene in awe. "Sirus most prized possession." She commented and chuckled. Her hand covered her mouth as she winked at Sirus. Irene did not know why, but she did not like what the woman had said. She was no one’s property, and even though she understood what the woman meant, she didn’t like it. "My name is Annabelle. Nice to meet you."
