Lingering heartaches would keep for darker nights. Survival demanded fangs now - not tears. And a queen’s armor allowed no chinks as long as hostile blades remained nakedly drawn and angled at her throat by supposed faithful servants. The war raged on for my empire’s soul. But new resolution hardened my heart against all interlopers. None could be permitted to glimpse hesitation or doubt in meine eyes from this day forth.
