The ground didn’t explode. It started to hum—soft at first, then stronger. The patch of Mother Soil sank, and the earth under the heavy silo shifted, moving like water. Not magic. A landslide. The silo tipped, away from the soldiers, toward the deep valley behind the mill.
Jump on! June yelled.
They scrambled up the slanting metal, hanging on as the silo leaned and then crashed down the hill like a steel sled. Soldiers fired, bullets pinging off the sides. The silo slammed into the muddy valley and started sliding, picking up speed.
