"Well, it's Throne of glass..." He replied , still looking her up suspiciously.

The book of predictions levitated, pages fluttering as if caught in a wind. "No!" the Mother of Lies screamed, lunging forward. Too late. The book burst into blue flames, not ruining it but sending it elsewhere—to the one person who could protect it now. Pain burst in my chest as the Mother of Lies drove her hand through my ribs, clutching my heart. My view darkened at the edges. With my last breath, I whispered the final words of the true prophecy—the part I'd kept secret even from Orion:

H U N T E R J O N E S I was reading the second Harry Potter book while leaning against the wall in the alley with Ty on my side. I knew Mey had asked me to read the Goblet of Fire to figure out the three unforgivable curses, but after picking the book randomly, I felt that I owed it to the author to read it from the first book. So I had picked up Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone from the library yesterday, finished the book in seven hours, and had it returned this morning. When I had returned the first one, I immediately borrowed the second one: Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets which was the book I was reading right now.

And then, she saw another somewhat familiar name. “Duke Liam Almandine marched to the South with Archmage Heinrich Hyacinth... and the Army of Lycans.” She mumbled the names, she voiced her suspicions. “Liam...” A sliver of thought passed her mind. That coffee cup... She focused back on the book and read the story through the night. She finished the book at three in the morning, thanks to her talent for fast reading. In the last chapter, the Villain won the war. He killed everyone. He killed the two main characters, but Harriet weirdly felt that wasn’t the important thing here.

I add, "Especially your favorite horror stories." So for the rest of the period Seymour tells me about an assortment of authors and books he has read. I am delighted to learn that Dracula is his all-time favorite story. I miss the bull's-eye a few times on purpose, but I don't know if I fool Seymour. He never takes his eyes off me. The next period I am off to biology. Ray sits in the back at a lab table. I waste no time. I walk straight back and sit beside him. He raises an eyebrow as if to say that someone else has that seat, but then seems to change his mind.
