His voice—low and rough—murmured something Aria couldn’t hear, and Liora’s answering laugh was bright, cruel, and full of ownership.
Aria’s body refused to move. She felt both invisible and exposed, as though the air had been stripped away from her lungs. Her wolf, Serena, whimpered inside her mind, but the sound was faint, distant—like it came from another life entirely.
Liora’s fingers slid into Damien’s hair, nails grazing his neck, and she whispered something loud enough for Aria to catch:
“Better than some pitiful little servant, hmm?”
Damien’s answering hum was deep, unbothered. He didn’t even need to say yes. His indifference said enough.
