Isabella’s POV “Mommy, are we going somewhere?” Mira’s tiny voice broke the silence in the room and snapped my attention away from my phone. She was seven years old, yet her voice still sounded small and silvery, like that of a four-year-old. I never understood why. Sometimes it worried me. Other times, like now, it just made my chest ache.

I thought she had her piece, but she started opening her mouth again. "Leandro, if you think life is long, you're wrong; it isn't, life Is so short Leandro, I see how life could quickly fade from our senses, one to two of patients die daily, that's how short life is, please be honest in how you feel now, you almost lost Aubrey once. Isn't that enough proof that this life is so uncertain? That this life is so cruel? And it could be taken away from you, from any one of us in just an instant. Wake up! I asked, and Death shrugged, twirling his scythe as if it were a baton. "No clue. I deal with matters of death." "...you're of no help, you know that?" "I've upheld my deal, so I think I've helped way more than necessary. I'm just glad I didn't go fishing for your soul. Otherwise, I would've declined." My jaw drops at his comment, and he shrugs, fading away.

She got up and gave me a hug. "It's all over. Live for yourself from now on." It was something so simple, even an outsider understood. And yet, it had taken me six whole years to finally wake up. Fortunately, it still wasn't too late.

He won, I was eliminated in the first round. Max nods eagerly, going into depth about how much fun he had and how it was the best thing he had ever experienced. Needless to say, I stopped listening immediately. Deep in depth talks about anything really just aren't interesting enough to hold my attention. Unless of course it's really serious. Like, life or death serious.

“What about your parents? Your family, you must be missing them being here…” “My parents are dead.” Lisa said bluntly. “And I don’t have any family. It’s just me. So there’s no one to miss.” She smiled tightly, not wanting to see the same look people always gave her when they heard and wanted to somehow show their sympathy at her loss. “That sounds quite lonely.” Phillip said without thinking and lisa just shrugged. She’d gotten use to being lonely. Lonely was her life and being in this world didn’t make any less so than her own one.
