Live Wire Novels & Stories

Chapter 67: Network Blackout The impact was a cataclysmic explosion of raw, electrical violence. The moment the silver blade sliced through the outer titanium casing and bit into the primary copper power bus, fifty thousand volts of electricity found their path of least resistance through Laila’s body.

Her heartbeat echoed in her ears. Lucien slowly lowered himself beside Vivienne. "What do you see?" Vivienne brushed away another layer of sand with a small nylon brush from her field kit. "Pressure plate." "Copper trigger." "Recently manufactured." She traced the thin red wire with her eyes. "It leads underneath the lighthouse." Alexander swallowed. "So if Elara lifts her foot..." Vivienne didn't answer immediately. Finally, she said, "I don't know what happens." "And I don't intend to find out."

She blanched. Cane looked her dead in the eyes for few seconds and then he dialed a number before pressing the phone to his ear. "Do it!" Her eyes widened at his words and she saw Mike turned the screen of the laptop towards her where a live footage was shown in which her mother was washing dishes in the kitchen, and after just two seconds she saw red laser moving from her mother's head towards her heart. Her blood froze as she stared baffled.

"LUS tell me about this one." [Blueprint: Perimeter Electric Boundary. Cost: forty System Points. Description: Upgrades the existing walls with an active high-voltage circuit. Delivers a five-thousand-volt shock to any organic entity touching the exterior surface. Includes an automated backup battery system that runs for forty-eight hours if main power fails.] "Five thousand volts " I murmured, a smile touching my lips as I thought about anyone trying to climb over my walls in the dark. "That will cook a scavenger instantly. Buy it. Install it on the outer perimeter."

Cassian said as he held down Dunley, who was about to get up. "Don't worry about me. Take Anthony and go!" Dunley said grimly. "Go? Do you think you can still go anywhere?" Sneering, Leland got back on his feet. What the hell? Cassian's eyes widened. "You must be wondering why I'm not dead yet, even though you killed my life-bound parasite," Leland remarked smugly. "Well, it's because my life-bound parasite isn't dead." "That's impossible!" Before Cassian made his attack, he'd used the All-Seeing Eye and saw that Leland's life-bound parasite was a tiny bee hiding inside a blood vessel under his ribs. The needle should've killed it for sure.

Elias asked Xander over me. My head snapped up. "Ashes?" "Yes. Vampires burst into flames when they're killed." Elias shrugged. "So, the sunlight doesn't affect them?" Obviously, I had more to learn about our supernatural world than I had originally thought. "Yes, but Lance's wife, Leila, created a sunlight serum. So, now they can go into sunlight without bursting into flames," Xander replied as if this were the most normal conversation ever. "Why do they burst into flames in sunlight in the first place?" I asked.

Adrian growled softly into his comms, his voice a low, murderous purr. "The auxiliary ground wire is wet," Lila continued, her eyes scanning the thermal overlay as she rerouted the estate's remaining power storage. "If I flood the junction box with a secondary surge from the solar grid right now, it won't detonate the charges, it will short out the entire triggering mechanism. But you only have three seconds between the surge and the circuit burnout before he realizes the switch is dead." "Give me the surge," Adrian said. In the car, Lila hit the override key.

A tiny Morse code that says stay alive, Mommy. The screen is spider-webbed but breathing. 4,892 notifications. I open X with a thumb that feels borrowed. #LiviaKane is the number-one global trend. Above actual wars. Above actual deaths. The photos are everywhere: courthouse steps, white dress clinging to yesterday’s grief, Alexander two steps behind like a beautiful reaper. Someone zoomed so close on my ring finger the black diamonds look like bullet wounds. The comments are a coliseum of teeth: “She upgraded from garbage to nuclear weapon in 24 hours” “Pregnant and still served revenge cold. Mother is mothering.” “Imagine fumbling a woman who can buy your entire bloodline with one phone cal

Something cold and plastic tugged at my arm. I looked down and blinked at the thin tube piercing my skin. What the hell? Why was there a wire in my arm? I started to sit up but instantly regretted it. The back of my head pulsed, and the world tilted a little too far to the left. I clutched the stiff blanket and froze when I heard someone shift beside me. "Hey, you woke up?" came a soft voice. I flinched so hard I nearly ripped the wire out. "Shit!"

Lorelei scolded while pointing at Lucille. Like fireworks, Lorelei's words exploded in Sabrina's mind, as well as everyone else's in the Johnson residence. "W-What did you say, Lorelei?" Sabrina asked in disbelief. "This bitch, Lucille, has been live streaming. Everything that happened earlier was broadcast online. There are already several hundred thousand viewers in this bitch's livestream!" Lorelei explained. Lorelei constantly calling Lucille a "bitch" immediately infuriated the viewers, causing them to swarm the live chat.
