Then I finally appreciated that my hands and feet were not bound to anything. I looked around and saw a dimly lit room, which didn't have much in it apart from the chair she had been sitting on, a small bathroom in the corner. Atleast it wasn't a bucket. The mattress I was currently sitting on and a small barred window, which was too high to reach anyway. I swear this woman is crazy. I dunno how long I had been in the room when the door was opened again. "Missed me?" She asked but I didn't even respond to her. She sat down on the chair. "Well now I want to properly welcome you to my empire. Ever heard of the black widow?"

Behind her, hundreds marched in silence. Veiled women of every race, caste, and exile, witches cast from their covens, Lycans whose wolves had turned feral, vampire concubines who bore no names, human girls who had burned too brightly for the cages men had built around them. They bore no banners. Only scars. They were Dustborn now. The black sands hissed beneath their steps. Ash clung to their hems. And not one of them looked back.

Ethan’s silver eyes narrowed slightly as another pulse moved through the sanctuary beneath his feet. “It keeps repeating the same thing.” Raven frowned. “What?” Ethan finally turned toward them. “Emergence requires form.” Lucian cursed softly under his breath. “Yeah, I really hate how that sounds.” The surviving converged woman sat several meters away under heavy containment barriers created by the autonomous system. After the shadow attack in the sanctuary, she was the only one left alive from the First Convergence group. But even now, silver patterns continued moving beneath her skin like living circuitry.

The one-way mirror should keep me hidden, no matter how large the hole in the wall might be. Even so, every time Antonio seemed to glance in my direction, my imagination ran wild, filling my mind with thoughts I couldn't suppress. People like Eveline would taunt me forever. I slowly got up, brushing the dirt off my body, my heart still pounding as I worried about Jerry. "You have no name, so who cares about your reputation? Just run away while you can," Eveline said, then slapped me. For a few seconds, darkness blinded my eyes. I had received this exact slap from Eveline countless times since I was five, but today, I was going to put a stop to it. "I have a name, Eveline. I am Luna Lara, Alpha Jerry’s wife, in case you forgot," I said, knowing my words would sting her. I had decided to fight back.

He's only going to have headaches and fights from now on. Facing these two women standing in front of me, who had left plenty of marks in my life, my emotions were in turmoil. And yet, I felt strangely calm. They both said everything they could to win my forgiveness, and I treated every word from them like a joke. In the end, I called security and had them both thrown out. However, neither of them gave up. They kept trying every possible way to earn my forgiveness. They even fought each other just for the chance to see me.

But she knew the women would need protection if things on the field went south. Losing her mate made her throw caution to the wind; Avery's words didn't register to her. In a different circumstance, she would listen to her Luna, but overwhelmed by grief, there was no room for reasoning. The other women who had lost their mates agreed with Agatha. They had lost their soulmate and did not feel like they had anything left to live for. They were heading out. As if playing a cruel joke on them, the doors to the bonkers were rammed into: the mothers transformed and started growling in the direction of the doorway; fangs out, the females were protecting their cubs, ready to die for them.

They didn’t have any real life problems, they didn’t have mortgage to worry about because they sure didn’t have money problems. As Luna looked around, she realized none of them would ever send their daughters off to marry a stranger to offset the debts they owed to the stranger’s company and family. No, none of them would ever. The loneliness she had felt just a few minutes ago didn’t compare to the one she felt now at that realization. She didn’t belong here, Luna thought to herself with clarity, she didn’t belong here at all. “I just hope she knows what she’s doing,” the first woman continued. “Because if not, by the time Moira is done with her, well, God help her.”

Their ill luck had been a persistent companion long before this predicament, and the last thing I wanted was for them to be unjustly held accountable. I found myself staring into the frosty blues of Winter's gaze. It was a gaze that held boldness, indifferent to my identity. There was no expectation, no ulterior motive. The same was true for her friend, and it struck me that these women weren't attempting to seduce us despite possessing the allure to do so. Instead, they seemed focused on simply navigating through the challenges before them. This marked the first time we wouldn't be on someone's menu.
