Past midnight, Angel hovered in the doorway, arms locked across her chest. The lounge flickered with a no-budget horror’s blue wash. Chris slouched in a recliner, buried to the wrist in popcorn. On the couch, Robert snored gently into Selma’s shoulder. Teens sprawled on the carpet, half-watching, half-whispering. Scott among them.
“Anyone seen my parents?” Angel asked, voice too steady.
Chris glanced over. “Weren’t they going for shrubs?”
